Identify the snake species

pitparade Nov 20, 2013 08:45 PM

Hey you guys,

I purchased some costly snakes said to be indigenous to Guatemala.
Can someone please help me identify this snake so that I can take better care of it. Please help me to identify it. Thank you. Both of them are beautiful.

yeah, I am pretty lucky. Thanks.

As noted this is Masaquate de tierra frio aka Gibson's gophersnake (Pituophis l. gibsoni). I bred these guys in early 2013. I suspect you ended up with the pair I sold to Eric Pfeiffer. I recall he was trying to turn them over. Drop me an e-mail and I will give you all the history on that pair as well as care information.

Congratulations! You are among a very small group of people working with the first ever gibsoni ever produced out side of Guatemala.

John Ginter,

This is Pat Briggs. This are two of your babies that I have now. I'm justing messing with these guys.

ginter Nov 21, 2013 09:53 AM

Oh Pat you crafty fellow. I should have guessed it was you. That is the kind of thing I would do! Ha ha ha. I knew they were from my 2013 breeding but didn't know which pair. It will be 3 or 4 years before anyone else breeds these.

Drug them out for some pics already I see. You have got to be one very happy guy!

I am trying to keep track of the 2013 offspring but I suspect it will soon be a lost cause. Enjoy!

ginter Nov 21, 2013 09:55 AM

good gracious those are nice looking snakes. I am really happy with the rich golden brown coloration they are developing.

pitparade Nov 21, 2013 07:21 PM

I am happy with the gibsoni; they both look healthy. I am also please with the jani. They look great.

pitparade Nov 21, 2013 07:26 PM

John,
Post an image of the male gibsoni, so that we can all see him in all his glory.

pitparade Nov 21, 2013 07:34 PM

John,

Show us the parents to the Jani too.

HappyHeathen Nov 23, 2013 11:43 AM

Hey John, could you send me the account of how the gibsoni came into the hobby? I collecting as much info as I can on the hobby origins of pituophis and the various morphs. Dates, places, people, and pics would be greatly appreciated and if I do end up getting a book made from all this, credits would be giving for all sources of info.

When do you plan on producing more btw? I definitely want in on this.
