I want to convert to either the T5 or T8 fluorescent UVB tubes for my tortoises. I heard the T5's have much higher and longer UVB output then the T8. Neither the T8 or T5 work in my old T12 fixtures. The price is almost the same but I wonder what the trend is? Will the T8's be phased out like the old T12's? I am almost out of T12's. Any advice would be apprecated.

Go with the T5s!! The new fixtures reflect a lot of the light as well. They seem much brighter. I replaced some of mine and will slowly replace more. I would bet they phase out the T8.
