Hard to believe that this is the same snake, from being a baby 3 years ago, to the small adult it is today. So awesome to see how dramatic the change can be.

What a beaut! How long has it grown in 3 years?

She is around 4 1/2 feet.

I thought it was a good looking snake in the baby picture, but it has grown up to be absolutely beautiful
Thanks!
Yeah, when they are babies, they are called " ugly ducklings " by many, but IMO, they are beautiful as well, but just they are a whole other story at that time.
Deppei Deppei and Deppei Jani are so much fun to watch grow and turn into their adult colors. You have no 100% sure way of knowing how they will turn out.

Wow, that's a real change in color. Looks like she got a paint job
Thanks!!
Yeah, watching them change with each shed is remarkable.

I love the way that no two are the same! Similar maybe, but never the same.
Truely beautiful animals.
12 months before I got my own Jani I had been offered hatchling Jani and Deppei, and never having seen the adults before, I am ashamed to say I was completely unimpressed and turned them down in favour of a striking little Annectens!

Exactly!!!!!!!!!!!

I think I'm going to take the ivory bull off my list and get one of these instead (I only have room for 2 more snakes :[
I just need to figure out where I'm getting it. I found some nice looking babies on here, but the seller didn't produce them so I can't get pictures of the parents. I've seen pics of mexican pines that look a lot like yours, not quite as nice as yours to be honest. And I've seen some that look more like a copperheads coloring (different pattern of course). So, I would definitely want to know which I was getting before I got it.
Any suggestions on who to go with?
The seller of this female I posted does not post on kingsnake anymore, and I have no current contact info for him.
Two people I do know though that have really nice jani:
John Ginter, who posts as ginter.
Amanda T., who has posted as ALT, in the past, has some really nice jani as well.
These would be my first two suggestions.
And no..there is no such thing as having a cutting off point for pits..HAHA!!!

If I don't make a cut off point I won't have room for them or be able to afford to feed them
I've been reading that mexican pines are more prone to regurgitation than other pits. Has this been the case in your experience?
HA HA! I hear ya!!!
Most of us never know when to cut off!! HA HA!
Yes, Mexican pines can be prone to regurge, if power fed or kept way too warm. I lost my first deppei to regurge, and so, I learned the hard way. After speaking with many breeders, their experience fulfilled what I had heard from keepers' experiences as well.
They are not fragile to keep. On the contrary, they are still very easy to keep, as well with other pits. They just REALLY do well with cooler temps, even a little cooler than other pits, and what I told by many breeders, food items not too large in their first year of growth ( a little smaller than what northerns or bulls could take, at mealtime ) and limit one per feeding, once a week. Some even told me to wait until once every 8 or 9 days. I fed every 7 days though.
Once their first year has passed, the meals then can be decent sized like your other pits, but again, limit one per feeding, if you feed your other pits more. They can grow a little slower than other pits too. Most of my adult deppei deppei or jani range anywhere from 4 1/2 feet to 6 feet, and still growing!
So, this has been my experience, and it could differ from keeper to keeper, but this has been mine and the knowledge that had been passed to me from many others. Others may have diff input, and if so, please add!!!

Hi folks. I've been pretty absent on the forums, due to lots of life craziness, but I'm still around if you look hard enough! With any luck, the dust will settle this year. Thanks to Billy for hunting me down and dragging me back in!
Anyway, I'm still working with jani, and don't plan on changing that any time soon. I was hoping to be producing 2 (as far as I know) unrelated clutches this season, including the first F2 from "my" line, but a big move will likely delay that until next year. Packing up gravid snakes and/or eggs is best avoided.
My experiences with them echo Billy's. They're tough as nails once they hit about age 2, but can be delicate when young. I do not heat them, and I do not push them with food. I like to have youngsters feeding on adult mice by about age 2, and rats by 3 but it all depends on whether they "turn off" in the winter months or not. If they go off-feed in the winter, I don't stress about it. I find the males are more likely than females to go off-feed in the winter, especially once sexually mature. My females aren't bred until at least 4 years of age, and near 6' length, and I've stopped cooling my adults for breeding. I discovered this by accident one year when I hadn't planned on breeding but stuck a pair in the same cage for a bit while cleaning. It seems photoperiod is more important than cooling for breeding jani (at least in my collection, in the Northeastern US).
My largest adults are just over 7', and I have had both sexes in that size range. If you dig through this forum, you should be able to find photos of my kids. I've been working with these guys since the late 90s. Their natural variability, ease of care, size, and temperament make them my favorite Pits. I would love to get all the Mexican species/subspecies someday, if I ever settle myself somewhere with the space to have them!
Here's a few holdbacks from my 2012 clutch...the most recent photos I have of any of my jani. The bigger they get, the harder they get to photograph decently! They just don't stop moving!
Gorgeous! Yellowed up really nicely. Great comparison pics. Thanks for posting.
