Question regarding ovulation cycle

larrydibella Feb 07, 2014 09:54 AM

I am new to breeding ball pythons and have spent the last 3 years raising up my females to breed. My first female had(what I think to be an ovulation) on. Jan 31. 1 week later and she just shed. From what I have read they usually have a pre lay shed 21 days later? Is this still likely the pre lay shed? Thanks

The shed after OV is pre-lay shed....but 1 week sounds a little tight...usually closer to 3 weeks for shed after OV. Did you take a picture of what you thought was OV?

Thanks. I do have a picture but I do not know how to load it into the message. She was very swollen , and it happened overnight. She was thicker but close to norMal within about 24-36 hours. She has surprisingly fed three times since. Thanks again for your reply.

I would say definitely not OV if she's eaten.

I have seen this a couple times... it may be associated with creating the follicles or something along those lines... those females laid eggs about 6 months later... Good luck and keep breeding her...
