Sea Snake in Dominican Republic?

parkerbartels Apr 01, 2014 09:41 PM

Recently I came across what appears to be a sea snake while snorkeling in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. After doing some research, I found that sea snakes are only found on the other side of the world. I was hoping someone could identify this snake (if it is in fact a snake) or confirm that it is just an eel?

Thanks!

That is a Sharptail Eel (Myrichthys breviceps). You can see the fin running down the middle of the back. Seasnakes don't have fins like that.

Thank you for clearing that up! I you're definitely right it's a sharptail eel.
