Can a small male that is breeding stop

Bluerosy Apr 05, 2014 11:09 PM

I have a small male at 550 grams when he started breeding several females about 2 months ago. He stopped feeding since that time (10 weeks) and is now 470 grams.

Can he burn out and stop feeding forever? He is still hooking up.

Hi Rainer,

I'm surprised that you haven't gotten a response yet. That is common with young males. The older ones will eat as they are hooked up (in my collection anyway). The young studs are so preoccupied with gettin' some that the feeding instinct gets repressed. If you are worried about him, separate him and get him in a consistently warm spot (limit his choices). You might even put him in a separate location so he can't smell the girls. Once he sobers up from his nookie bender, he'll eat again.

Yeah, the Ball pythons certainly do not act like no other.

I am not going to shut down his breeding yet as he is still breeding 5 females and want to get clutches out of them.

So I guess I will wait before I separate him.. I was just concerned with if he will shut down permanently after the season was over. I heard that can happen but the source was not reliable.
