Flexwatt questions for new rack.

krfun Apr 28, 2014 11:35 AM

I just put together a new snake rack using the prefab plano style plastic shelving. I'll be using 28 and 41 qt tubs for ball pythons, cornsnakes and asian ratsnakes so I will need 3 different temps.

I am not sure what size or wattage of flexwatt to get. I was thinking of using 6 inch, 8 watt for all levels. I have 3 zoomed temperature controllers already and they accept two plugs,so I should be able to cover the 3 temperature ranges.

I am also not sure if I should just tape the flexwatt over the plastic shelf or lay down aluminum foil or tape over the plastic shelving and then tape down the flexwatt. The shelving is not solid,it has venting.

What do you think?

Depending on the background temps, either 3" or 4" tape should be fine. Taping down the flexwatt using aluminum tape will secure it better and minimize wear over time.
