Glossy Snake (Arizona elegans). Looks like the subspecies from the Mojave Desert.

Yeah, definitely a Mojave Desert Glossy or a California Glossy. They are great snakes, make great captives. Too bad they are now a protected species in California now. Doesn't make sense. You go out road cruising here in SoCal and you're usually guaranteed to see at least one.
