Northern blue tongue in a CB70 tub....

BobS May 05, 2014 05:59 AM

Wow! I just saw where somebody was keeping Intermedia in a CB70 tub we keep shy snakes in! !!

I'm no stranger to using them for snakes, particularly shy snakes that spend most of their time under hides INSIDE a CB70 and I realize there is debate pro and con but a Blue Tongue Skink?! Wow!!!

Blue tongues, particularly Intermedia, are super intelligent visually stimulated animals! These are animals that bask in sunlight in nature regularly and are super inquisitive . I can't believe anyone that knows anything about them would do such a thing for convenience! I'm stunned!

Outside in a pit or some type of enclosure or or large screened in tortoise tub for commercial breeding but a CB70 tub! WOW! This is a new low in our hobby. Sad

Some of you may even know this breeder and can excercise some opinion. The thought of even purchasing from someone that would keep a lizard that intelligent and aware in something not much bigger than the Intermedia itself to make a lousy buck is detestable.

I just had to vent . Sorry folks. As far as I can see there is no debate on this. It's CRUEL!

Folks. To be clear. I don't mean to be obnoxious to anyone but as big as Intermedia are in a CB70 that's what? A 24" to 26" lizard in a 33" long tub? Like 3 steps forward turn around, 3 steps forward turn around. I'm amazed that we have to think that through and try to convince fellow helpers that that isn't too small.

There are bigger tubs and I'm just trying to say shouldn't we avail ourselves to those? At least?

Another point is that the 33" measurement of a CB70 tub is at the top lip and the sides slide down so you technically have even less useable space.
