Is my CaliKing dying??

nursezac May 15, 2014 09:32 AM

Hello! I hope you all can help me. We have had a King for 10 years as a pet. Well, we recently renamed "King" to "Queenie" as she suddenly laid a couple of eggs. We only have Queenie, so were a bit perplexed as to the egg laying. But that is where our concern begins.

Queenie shed prior to laying the 3 eggs. She hasn't eaten in about 2 months now. Her once shiny scales are dark and dull. She laid another egg about 2 days ago and appears to have another inside her.

I am scared she is dying. I also can't figure out why she keeps laying eggs as they certainly are not fertilized. I am worried about her. Can you advise? Thank you!!!

this might be too late, but maybe not.

she needs to be given a good place to lay eggs to reduce the chances of being egg bound. fill her cage with 5-6 inches of moist sphagnum moss and place a flat rock, piece of tile, anything flat and slightly heavy on top of the moss. she will burrow under to lay eggs.

if you think the eggs are out, offer food, basically all that she wants to eat until she looks how she did prior to developing eggs/slugs.

if eggs ae still in her, you can try to wait it out and see if she will deposit on her own, or take her to a vet (if you can find one that knows anything about reptiles)
