Female dragon won't stop eating

lareena May 20, 2014 06:47 PM

I have a 2-3 year old female bearded dragon. Within the last month and a half she has laid 46 eggs and most have been fertile. However, my problem is that she won't eat her greens and veggies all she wants is crickets and grasshoppers, though she will eat blueberries. Her stomach is getting really big and I don't feel any eggs inside her stomach like Ive felt before. Do I just not feed her till she starts eating her greens again or should I keep feeding her what she wants. She has a bowel movement everyday sometimes twice a day so I really don't think she is as hungry as she think she is. Any suggestions?

What is your UVB setup like? What kind of bulb and how far away from the basking spot is it?

Are you gutloading the crickets and grasshoppers before feeding and are you also dusting them with a calcium Vitamin D supplement? What brands? have you tried dubia roaches and BSF larvae instead of crickets? They are both much more nutritios and you can mix them with her greens as long as you have a deep enough feeding dish. This will encourage accidental eating of the greens.

What kind of greens are you feeding, are you using any vitamin supplements with those? Aim for low-oxalate greens.

Have you tried a gel premix before, like Repashy VeggieBurger or the new GrubPie? My female loves the VeggieBurger and I have GrupPie on order. If I slice it and mix with her salad she also eats salad accidentally. She is a big salad eater anyway though.

Also, how may clutches has your female laid? Did she lay them in a burrow or in her enclosure?

Lastly, have you taken her to an exotics vet for an exam an x-rays since she laid? I would be curious to see what her bone density is like.
