room temperature or undertank heat ?

joann42 May 26, 2014 06:20 PM

I have a juvenile taiwan beauty and was wondering if I need a uth.I have read the care sheets saying they like a hot spot of only 82.My room in summer runs 75-80. An online person told me they keep their ratsnakes at room temps so wanted to confirm this as okay.
Since I keep snakes that almost all have 90 degree hotspots I have them on one thermostat. I would have to make a separate dimmer for the taiwans if its necessary.

The best way I found was to set the UTH at 80 deg F, and then watch where she (my taiwanese) spent most of her time, if she avoided the uth hide then it's too hot, if she spends all of her time in the hot hide then it's slightly too cold, I think I have it currently at 84, but, that is the uth temp, not her hot side temp, the heat has to go through everything and into her humid hide.

Every snake is different, you'll just have to figure out what your snake likes.
