Florida State exam for venomous license

Woodsnake May 27, 2014 02:29 PM

I am planning on taking the Florida state exam to help reduce the hours needed for a venomous license from 1000 hours to 500 hours. I have been sent some literature from FWC to study from. Most of the literature is state statutes and a small, out of print, herpetological circular about keeping venomous snakes. Is there anyone out there who has taken this exam and could give me an idea of what the questions were like? I would rather not take this exam more than once if possible and I am due to start accumulating my hours in late October.

Hey,

How did the test go and how do you apply for that?

I'm in college and don't have the time to go for 1,000 hours so this would be very helpful (I live in Florida as well.)

Please let me know!

Thanks!

The test was much easier than I expected and from what I heard from other people it has always been kind of a joke. If you have spent any time keeping snakes and reading snake books this test should be no problem. The only thing you probably need to study up on is the laws and rules regarding keeping venomous snakes as well as Heloderma. I got an 88% and I spent most of my time studying the laws. Good luck

Thanks for the response! I'm glad to here there is such thing as this test!

Could you please let me know how to apply for this test?

Also, have you aquired your 500 hours yet?

To apply just call the closest FWC office to you and schedule a date and time to take the test. I did it in Ocala

Will do. Sorry for all of the questions but I just want to be prepard. To what extent of studying are you talking about? like a few hours a day or just a couple of law books and your good?

Thanks.
