I thought Mongrel was Mexican Black x Splendida? What do you call the MBK x splendida?

By and large, they are the same animal, so it cannot be a mongrel or mutt or whatever folks call them.
There are areas, where splendida, are splendida, for the most part, in the eastern part of their range. But out here in the western part of their range, they are the same as MBK's found in the same places, and out of the same clutches. There there is phenotypically the whole range from pure black to pure splendida in the exact same areas(many areas)

Thomas was the one calling it a Mongrel. It's a trade name to designate a certain cross, like Jungle Corn or Imperial Pueblan. I was just asking about a post he made some time ago in which he showed splendida x nigrita babies and I thought I remembered him calling them Mongrel Kings too.

I think some taxonomists are looking at grouping the holbrooki, floridana, nigra and getula getula into one species and spendida, nigritis and californiae into another. The eastern varieties do seem to have thicker bodies and relatively smaller heads so I think it might be true.

hi aaron, ive never crossed splendida and mbk. I have stated several times over the years that I believe them to be the same.
I coined the term mongrelking for MBKXFLA. crosses I did years ago I did this for purist to know without doubt what they were a mongrel, a cross, my mongrels are 50/50s next season they will be 75/25 my goal with that cross was/is simply bringing the whiteside mutation along with anery and hypo from floridana into the nigritus with my goal being a WS MBK
hope that helps

Thanks for the clarification. I must be confusing the mongrels with another post I saw.

Cool, Frank. Recently got to see a couple of Cochise Co. splendida in the wild (patterned). Will be looking for the darker ones next. Great snakes.
