all of my annulata clutches are out..

mikefedzen Aug 22, 2014 06:44 PM

terrible year it seems like... got 25 bad eggs from an albino and a het female, 4 different clutches, fathered by the same male. bred a spotted male to a spotted female, first clutch of the year, got 9 eggs, 5 were bad but 4 were obviously good. unfortunately fruit flies had already laid eggs on the bad ones by the time I got them out of the nesting box, and then maggots destroyed 2 good eggs. Both eggs hatched, the first one was a really nice spotted that didn't survive the night. Second egg is still a pretty nice female spotted.

the 2nd clutch of the year was from Freer albino x spotted, these double het albino spotted babies will probably produce the first ever albino spotted! I got 11 of them, 5.6, and most of them are very clean banded with no aberrancies.
here is one of the hatchlings before they shed.

and then I had the last good annulata clutch hatch out a few days ago. from Freer albino x normal, 2 years in a row I did this breeding and both years every baby has 1 single aberrancy. last year the 2 eggs didnt hatch for 100 days, this year they hatched before day 70. so I got 5 more outcrossed het albino mexican milks to work with.

At least you got some nice double hets. Regarding the fruit flies: they don't like sphagnum moss. Since I switched from vermiculite to sphagnum I've only seen a couple flies and zero larvae.
