Rarest hognose to exist! EYE CANDY GUYS!

wohlerswi Aug 29, 2014 12:51 PM

Thought I would share pics of probably the rarest hognose to exist.

This is a locale specific eastern hog. It is a 2013 wc animal owned by my good buddy Walter Kidd. It has been in captivity since August of last year, and pounds toads like no tomorrow. Wipe the drool off your keyboard and yes it is leucistic. The pictures were taken by my fiance, and I am the one holding him. We haven't weighted him but I estimate him to be around 350 grams. With some luck Walt is going to breed it this coming spring. These guys will not be disappearing like the westerns We have a nice proven female to pair him with, but are currently trying to track somemore nice females down if anyone has a line on any. What do you guys think? Please save the negative comments for someone else. Before anyone says it, it is an eastern 100% no questions asked, and yes it is leucistic. Happy looking.

Awesome snake! There were several others just like it in the past (including at least one true leucistic that had no black flecking), but I'm under the impression none survived long enough to reproduce. Hopefully this one can go all the way.

Also, the leucistic westerns are back in collections.

It is a true leucistic. Look up the genetic meaning and you'll see. Pie Bald is actually a form of leucism as well. I'm aware of the ones in the past that never made it. This guy is however a chow hound, he has grown like a weed in the past year. I have no doubts Walt will get him producing this spring too. I can't wait. I know leucistic westerns are "in peoples collections" now, but to be honest no one has come forward with any proof. I understand people might be fearful because of what happened in the past, but if the zoo auctioned them and they were legally acquired then there should be no reason to be afraid. Till then they will remain on the "lost" list lol. How large were the other leucistic easterns before they passed away?

Sorry, I phrased that poorly. Guess I meant more of a "classic" leucy than a real one.

I'm really not sure how long the others lasted. I spoke to a guy that owned a couple of albino girls, and he said they both died the year they were finally capable of breeding. That said, your boy looks great, and I wouldn't be even remotely surprised if you were the first to get these proven.

As far as the westerns, Brent Bumgardner has at least one. Go check his Facebook page. I believe they'll be openly offered for sale next season.

Anyway, I really hope to see this morph reproduced! I always loved the other ones I'd seen. One was actually caught not far from where I live, and my friend found one near a ditch being eaten by a kingsnake.

Walt has an albino male too. He is only about 100 grams, but I will get pics of him when go over there next time. He is amazing.

That snake is awesome.
I wish my state didn't have a "One eastern hog specimen" law...
(Species of concern)
You would think a receipt saying I got it out of state would count, but noooooo...

First off... Absolutely gorgeous snake. I was just curious if you have had the chance to pair your male to a decent female ? I have an approx 30" eastern female that would be readily available if your still looking. I don't want to part ways with her but would definitely "stud" her out lol! I know this is a late post, but figured I'd shoot you a post anyhow. If you want some pictures of her, shoot me an email and I'll get you some photos @ jarvisreptiles@outlook.com

Thanks again-
Jarvis
