Kingsnake social behavior

cdmoon Sep 11, 2014 06:45 PM

In school I was taught that snakes were solitary animals.
This whole concept of social bonding and colonial living is new to me. So I was just wondering what are some good sources to look at to learn more about this fascinating behavior. Thanks in advance for any help.

To start with try socialsnakes.com. Its were Melissa Armarillo works on congregations of Az. Black rattlesnakes. And we can then move on from there. In short, they are the opposite of solitary. But like other social animals, it means there are individuals IN the group and individuals, outside the group. Again, similar to other social species including ours. Transient individuals do not have permanent shelters and are most likely the easiest individuals to locate. So folks follow around transient animals and think the rest are like them. Which was in error.
