rattle snake Massasauga? About darn time Ive been here 19 years and seen lots of snakes but this is my first rattler.
I tell you I could barely see a button on the end of its tail.Looked more like a piece of tail missing until I looked really close.

Looks like a Massasauga. Are you keeping it? You might want to check the local laws. Massasaugas are protected in many areas.

Oh god no.It is legal here, with a hunting license you can keep up to five of any local unprotected species of reptile.
But with my record for losing snakes it would probably not be a good idea. I will be letting it go in a safe place.
