Twitching and aggression?

milesfortea Oct 18, 2014 10:46 PM

I have an Albino California king that is about 1 1/2, I've had him for about a year, and after a recent shed that took alot longer than usual I noticed that he has been acting strange.
He'll occasionally 'twitch' or have little muscle spasms, freeze, 'twitch' again, and then continue moving. Along with that, he's been rather aggressive, trying to strike at me from through the glass, at the hides, plants, driftwood, etc. whenever I move it. He's always been a rather mild mannered snake, and up until now hes never attempted to strike at me before.
Any Ideas as to what might be wrong?

Did he have a clean shed? Meaning no leftover skin is stuck on him?

Sheds can take longer in Winter when background temps are cooler. Even if you are heating the cage thru winter, the shed process can slow down.

The snake almost seems like it is displaying sexually mature male behavior, but early. Could also be something bothering him. Does he have access to some humidity, or an area where he can avoid drying out? Is he merely hungry?

Cal king behavior can change with the season. Especially with males. Calm during some parts of the year, and crazy during other times. I had a male for 20 yrs. During breeding season he could be a real nutcase. In summer, he was incredibly laid back. Not sure if this is what is happening with yours, but I present the info anyway. Cal kings have personalities!
