Question about handling

natethegreat Dec 02, 2014 10:00 PM

Mt BP doesn't seem to like being handled. He's not aggressive, but he seems very skittish and just wants to hide when I try to handle him. I don't necessarily feel the need to handle my pets, and I was wondering if I should just leave him alone, or keep at it in hopes that he'll get more used to it?

Most of the care books for ball pythons tend to recommend that you don't handle them more than 15 minutes in a week. They say it could potentially stress them out and throw off their eating. I would think if your snake isn't taking the threatened posture and balling up your company isn't bothering it and it is probably OK to handle it more but if it is being scared I wouldn't force interaction on it too much until it gets a little more confident.
