I was in coastal Santa Barbara county this Nov and visited some habitat that I have previously walked years before. I did not expect to see anything of course, but it was a great day for a hike up into the mtns.
6 or 7 years ago I found a shed skin at this site during Aug. Kingsnake, just not sure if zonata or californiae - it was the tail end of the shed going into a small burrow under a piece of sandstone. I am only a few hundred feet above sea level here. Lots of fractured sandstone, and lots of sun exposure. It is the unprotected sun exposure that makes me wonder if Cal kings or zonata are most prevalent here. Any ideas?
