Eastern Hognose?

dc9137 Feb 06, 2015 07:24 AM

I'm putting together a table top program for the state park where I live on native snakes and I'd like to have a live snake there as a display. My first choice would be an Eastern Hognose, but everyone breeds Westerns. I can't find any Eastern's out there.

Does anybody know of any Eastern Hognose breeders out there thay may have some captive born babies?

My second choice is a Speckled King. The only place I can find them is Big Apple Herp, which is fine, but I'd really prefer to see a pic of the snake I'm getting first. Actaully a Western Milk would be great too, but nobody has those either.

Thanks!

go to the classifieds, they pop up from time to time. Or post a wanted add.
They are fairly common after the hatching season. Good luck

Not many people are doing anything with Easterns. Reason being is that they do not do well in captivity for most people. Obviously, that is not the snakes fault. Most people just don't offer them what they need. If you are not well versed in snake husbandry that exceeds the "standard" way of keeping, chances are an Eastern will not do well in your collection. Go for the king. It will make for a much better captive and will withstand minimal husbandry that would otherwise kill an Eastern hog.

hello,

i would advise checking the "eastern and southern hognose snakes" page on facebook. there are numerous people that are successfully breeding easterns. some of them regularly have well established offspring for sale as well. try kevin fisher
