Introducing Male Rhino to Female

asparkoflife75 May 07, 2015 08:57 PM

Was wondering if anyone had tips or do's and dont's. My female is 4 years old and the male is a 9 year old. Both have great personalities. Just don't want to have any issues or injuries. Thanks

Introduce them, while doing so, act as a mediator. See how they respond, probably tons of head bobs and licks. Its pretty obvious when one of them is really not into it, if theres aggression, be there to pull em apart. There could be some chasing, thats fine as long as theyre not aggressively attacking. Id say if youre skeptical dont leave them alone while together until they seem to be able to relax in each others presence. The enclosure should be big enough to allow "personal" space and borders to chill out and not be seen by the other at all times.

Also, to make it more of a smooth process, maybe wait til mid to late summer so youre past mating season.

Im no expert, just my own experiences and some common sense. Good luck
