My 11 year old female AST has been coming out to bask for the last 2 years. I am in SoCal, and this behavior starts around March of the year. Any clues on why? I was always hearing that the only reason ASTs would leave water was to lay eggs. No chance of this, I don't think...no male!

Sexual maturity is at about 10-12 years old in alligator snappers. Maybe that's a factor.
