impaction?!?!

geckoejon Jun 10, 2015 06:47 PM

my 40g juvie female just started to get some swelling in the past 2 days. looks like impaction to me. thoughts?

she had been extremely active and an aggressive feeder, up until now

i'm seriously bummed... i really like this critter.

is it worth taking her to a vet, or will i just be wasting my time and money for the same outcome? thoughts?

Try soaking her in a 1/4 inch or so of warm water. Not deep enough to drown in. Giver her a tub big enough to have a lot of room to move around. This sometimes is enough to get impactions to pass. It works well on many species that are impacted.

If that doesnt work I wouldnt wait on gettting her to a Vet.

Then I would look into the possible reasons why she became impacted.

Best of luck...

gotcha... thanks.... yes, i soaked her last night, and again this morning.

i have contacted a herp vet, and will take her in saturday if it doesn't pass. my work schedule won't permit me driving a couple hours during the week and during to day time to take her.

Good, a vets the right thing to do, if your at a loss. The key is to determine what the problem really is. Organ problem, or ovum or fecal blockage. Of the three, the last is the easiest to treat. I wish you luck and it is a fecal impaction.

I am curious to know the outcome. It would be valuable info for us to be better hoggie keepers to know the outcome of these types of situations.

What was the outcome? I hope well.
