found a scarlet snake last night

Kerrogrin Jun 15, 2015 11:42 AM

Hello! I found a little scarlet snake last night. I'll be releasing it tonight, so it can be happy and grow, but I just want to make sure it'll be okay til then. I caught a tiny cricket last night and two tiny beetles for it in case it got hungry, which all seem to be gone and it has a big Gatorade cap of water, which I've seen it drinking from. Its hiding under a pile of leaves I put in there and its outside in the shade. I just wanna make sure it'll be okay and that I've given it everything it might need. There's two crickets in there now from the ace hardware store but I think they're too big. Should I remove them or cut them in half? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Dump the crickets, they can actually chew on the snake. It will be fine without food til you release it.

Thanks! I took them out and fed them to some toads who were more than happy. Little snakers is doing quite well still and I'll be going home to release him soon. I wish I could keep him but I'm pretty sure he'd be happier and healthier back where I found him. I also read baby snakes are difficult to feed, and I don't wanna even take the chance of harming this cute little baby. C:
