18yo Boa refusing to eat...

JrFreak Jun 24, 2015 07:46 AM

My 18yo boa has refused 8 or 9 times now and I'm starting to get a little worried. Her last feeding was on 1/31/15. She would refuse from time to time but would always take it a few days later.

There aren't any vets around my area experienced in exotics but I did find one that agreed to see her. He was young and not experienced at all. I lost confidence in him when he suggested trying live pinkies (for an 8 foot boa). He gave me some antibiotics for a respiratory infection which I do not think she has. I think he was in over his head.

Anyways, have any of you heard of snakes refusing f/t because they were frozen too long? My rats are 18 months old and maybe she doesn't like/recognize the smell any more. I have since ordered more that will be here in a week or so. I think RodentPro said shelf life was 12-14 months on frozen rats.

While I do not know the reason for sure, I can say that boas in general can be more picky with regards to dated frozen prey than say kingsnakes for example.

Going that long in summer months with out eating isn't normal.Rub her down for lumps or tumors.Get her out then as shes sliding back in cage apply decent pressure to both hands around her as shes slides through.Shouldnt be any bumps in her.You don't got to squeeze real hard to feel for them.
