Hello. We moved to Nevada in October and we live in the desert. The area is Silver Springs. There are paved streets here and most of the lots are 1-3 acres and ours is 2 acres and we have some nice garden area. It has been very very hot here recently and today I seen a snake and Im worried about it being a rattlesnake because I have dogs and I do not want to see them harmed. It was coming from the garden area and moving slowly on the ground. I did not seem bothered by me at all and at one point it even stopped. There are no rattles and no button at the end of the tail from what I could tell, just a regular snake body. It seemed more shiny and dull and from what I remember the head did not seem pointy. The tail ended in a point as you can see from the photo I am about to post. I am hopeful that this may be a Gopher Snake because I read that they are easily mixed up with rattesnakes. It slowly went under the shed and that is why i have a photo with no head. At that point it seemed to be getting tired of me and it shook it tail a bit and opened its mouth but I heard no hiss but my hearing is not that great. I read also that Gopher snakes will do that tail shaking thing. Anyway, any help would be appreciated as I do not want my dogs to be harmed. What I forgot to mention is that I know there are baby rabbits under that shed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
