My Beni and Kari

I love hearing how you are all doing....especially your mature shibas! Kari still has soooo much puppy energy - hunting, prancing, digging, etc....Beni, not so much....he is content sleeping on the stair landing or on the little couch. He doesn't jump on the "big boy couch" anymore. A few times a week he will get into "Shiba 150" mode for 30 seconds or so. I love them both so much, they are so special in their own special ways. Beni, being our 1st, holds a special place in my heart. It's been a long time since I've dealt with "older" dog issues and I feel I'm getting a bit too emotional. I would appreciate any advice on how to NOT dwell on getting older, but appreciate on all the wonderful parts of getting better!

My Beni is app.10 and Kari will be 9 in a month. I wonder if Beni is playing me at times, though. This am (and a few other times before) Beni will lay down on our walk...no slowing down, no sign of being tired,...just flop down in specific places. I know the places where he wants a belly rub, but now he has been lifting his paw (as if he's hurt) or his tail will go down. I usually pick him up until he walks with Kari and me (we are quite a comical sight). This am Beni had no energy, and laid down UNTIL we went in the direction he wanted to go....then he perked up immediately, he even tried to chase another dog!..Now I don't know if I need advice on an aging dog, or a wily shiba!

That's hillarious! They can be stubborn at times! My beagle "Sadie" would stop and sit down when she knew we were getting ready to turn down our street to go home. She is very strong. She would NOT BUDGE! I would have to push her all the way back!
