Soooo, the year got away from me and I didn't make a PH calendar this year. I got a reminder when a random person in Michigan contacted PHCA wondering if we made calendars. Two problems. First it's pretty late in the year and folks might have already purchased calendars. Second, the new PHCA website is no longer under my control so I can't set up a voting system.

So my question is, if I were to accept photos, make choices based on what I thought was a best fit and put the calendar on the PHCA website, would there be interest in buying it? I won't play favorites and won't put any of my dogs in there. The reason I'm asking, rather than just doing it, is that it's a ton of work and I want to make sure there's interest before I begin. It's $20 with $5 from each calendar going to PHCA and the rest going to CafePress. Anyway, could you comment, please?

Hi Carmen - Thanks for remembering us non-FB users. For myself I am very out of touch with the PH world, not out of any negativity, just life in general, getting old and living off the beaten path.

I already have several freebie calendars and with so little of the cost going to PHCA and the tremendous amount of work it is...I don't see it as very practical.

I think it's heroic of you to volunteer to do another one and many thanks for all the great calendars of the past. I still have them all.

Carmen,

I always bought one of your calendars and I will any time you put one together. Having said that, please enjoy your holiday season without adding one more drain on your time.

I was just thinking the other day that I haven't been taking as many pictures of the boys as I would like. One of my goals was always to take a picture good enough to make one of your calendars. I'm OK delaying that goal.

Yes please!!!! I miss having the Pharaoh Hound calendar on my wall -- well, I miss having a current one on the wall...I had to keep the 2009 one up all last year!

I'm perfectly fine with you choosing the photos -- and fine with some of your own dogs in there too!!!

I need large, high resolution photos with Pharaoh Hounds in happy, funny, cute, silly, athletic, or casual poses (no show or stacked photos, please). If a professional has taken your photo, you must get permission for the photo to be in a fund-raising calendar.

If you are familiar with photo editing, it would save me a good deal of time if you could send calendar ready photos. Final photo size will be 11 x 9 inches with resolution in the 200 to 300 d.p.i range.

I understand that not everyone has the capability to do this, so I can do some cropping and resizing to make it the correct dimensions. To make this possible, the layout should be slightly longer than tall . . . just like a Pharaoh Hound! . No square or tall, skinny pictures. If you don’t know whether your photo is large enough, look at the file size; it should be a minimum of 1,000 kb (1MB) and preferably more in the 3 MB (or more) range. The bigger your file, the more pixels I have to work with to make the photo work for the calendar

The Pharaoh Hound doesn't have to be huge in the photo. If you have Pharaoh Hounds running in the distance through a beautiful landscape, that’s great! You’ve seen the photo that I’ve attached before, but it gives you an idea of what I mean. Do not identify your dog. No people in the photos. We want generic Pharaoh Hounds so the calendar has the widest appeal!

Some photos that are seasonal would be good. Some snow photos, some bathing beauty photos. Let’s stay away from religious holidays - think spring, summer, winter, fall.

Since I’m so late, let’s just stick to e-mailed photos this year. I just don’t have time to do a bunch of scanning. Best address for large files is nahapharaohs@gmail.com. I’ll accept photos for about a week then choose the best 12. Then, depending on how many photos I get, I’ll turn the rest of the submission into a collage for the calendar cover.

I was thinking, if I get enough good photos, I could set up two calendars, on in the PHCA store and one in the Mt. Hood Pharaoh Hound Club store. That way folks have a choice. Hmmm, or maybe I'll do one puppy calendar and one adult calender. Decisions, decisions.
