Flying (international, no less)

ma Dec 11, 2011 06:04 PM

Has anyone on the forum taken a shiba on an airplane? Any advice? Artemis is almost nine years old, and I've never taken her on an airplane. But we're heading to France for the holidays, and she'll be in the cabin on a flight to Paris (and then one to Nice, and back to the USA)! I took her to the vet on Friday to make sure I have all the paperwork, and she's up-to-date on shots, and her vet prescribed the doggie equivalent of Xanax (just in case she gets anxious). I'm excited and so happy she'll be with me, but I want to make sure it all goes smoothly.

Sorry wish I could help.

But if you would like to take me I can be ready on a moments notice.

Funny... I was thinking the same thing!

Well, it looks like it's my job to be "the voice of experience." I'll let you know how it goes. Thankfully, France is pretty dog friendly.

We haven't left yet, and it's already been an adventure: I took Artemis in for an appointment (was charged over $100) and was told that another vet would need to do the health certificate, which--I was told--would just involve paperwork. Not so. When I called to pick up the paperwork, I was told another vet would need to examine her. Another $100. And her microchip isn't recognized by the European Union. So I'm bringing my own scanner--rented from the vet. And the paperwork had to be sent to Harrisburg to be "approved" (well, so they could charge $37). Still haven't gotten the paperwork back from Harrisburg. The adventure continues!

Isn't that always the way! One run around after another and just when you think it's over another run around. Good Luck with this adventure... it's only beginning! lol
