Division of Groups for AKC

Tetreault Mar 14, 2012 10:16 AM

The division of Groups failed to pass during the AKC delegates vote. The division would allow more groups in the ring which was eleven groups compared to the now seven groups.

The new group allignment would have allowed Scent Hounds and Sighthounds judged separately.

I'm disappointed in the outcome of this election. So, there would have been more ribbons to order or more time to be judged or more rings to run or a little more effort on everyones part.

Entries have been dropping and exhibitors somewhat frustrated and breeders disgusted with AKC shows.

Remember when AKC separated Working and created Herding. That was a very good thing. It did work and work well.

Hoping for another chance to bring this issue back up for a vote.

I agree with your assessment Linda, this is not good news. It is time for changes within the AKC in this regard and I hope more forward thinking will be forthcoming in the future.

I have little personal stake in the outcome but for the advancement of dog sports and the betterment of all the breeds this step needs to be taken.
