Update- it has taken me a while

Chelle Mar 22, 2012 01:35 PM

All, I am sorry for my extended absence from here. It was not intended.

I would love to say that my reason for finding this message board again was to give a nice update that all was well. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Kita passed away two weeks ago from complications due to a brain tumor. Devastated is not even strong enough word to describe how it feels to lose her. She deserves a long paragraph detailing how wonderful she was and how deeply she will be missed. Sadly, I am still not able to write it.
Anyway- I will be back here now that I have refound this board. Sorry again for my absence. Hug al of your Shibas from me. Their time with us is far too short.

Chelle my initial reaction to seeing a post from you was quickly tempered after I read it. I am extremely sorry and offer my deepest deepest sympathy to you and your family over the passing of Kita. She was truly a one of a kind Shiba and the Shiba world has lost a true friend. I always marveled at her long list of accomplishments and how proud you were of her.

I know what the loss must mean to you and I wish I could say it gets easier... but it doesn't. It's been 1½ years since I lost Keiko and I can't explain how his death has still affected me. When I alone here on the computer and look at the pictures on the wall and his resting place here with me on the computer I still shed a tear. I'm not sure what will happen when Toshi and Beni's time comes... most especially Beni.

Now that you have found the board again I hope you can find the time to come back and tell us about Taiko and his exploits. How is he handling Kita's passing? The last we knew you were fostering Shibas... are you still doing so?

Once again I offer my most sincere condolences over the loss of your heart dog and leave you with these words...

Look not where I was
For I am not there
My spirit is free
I am everywhere

In the air that you breathe
In the sounds that you hear
Don't cry for me Mom
My spirit is near

I'll watch for you
From the other side
I'll be the one running
New friends by my side

Smile at my memory
Remember in your heart
This isn't the end
It's a brand new start

Thank you. I appreciate the words. I can already tell the feeling of this loss will never really go away. Yet, that is the way it is with pets and you know it logically that some day their time will come to an end. It does not soften how hard it is though. You miss them.
Taiko- at first he did not really seem any different, like he thought she was just away on an extended vacation. Now, you can tell he misses her and wants her back. I have to accompany him in the yard or he will not go out. When we come home from shows, he rushes into the house believing she will be there to greet us and when she is not, he goes looking for her. When he does not find her, you can tell he is disappointed. He play bows the cat hoping she will chase him, and although she never has in the past, he may convince her. Those two have kind of a Garfield and Odie relationship. They secretly adore eachother, but it is not pubic knowledge.
Moving on with life, we made the decision yesterday to take in a puppy. We do not have her yet and are still holding back a tiny bit until we meet her. The day we had to put Kita down, a friend was telling me an old wives tale about how the universe will "give you a dime" to tell you you are on the right path when making a hard decision. I was at the store yesterday and paying with a credit card. Yet, the cashier gave me a dime for change. So, the universe is trying to tell me something I guess.

Chelle, I am so sorry to read of your loss.......sorry is in no way an adequate word. I've lost a beloved dog and I know the horrible pain. Six years later, I still my my Harley so very much.

Thoughts are with you.

I'm so sorry, Chelle. What a terrible loss for you and your family--and sad, too, for those of us who knew Kita from afar from your wonderful stories and photos.

So sorry to hear about Kita. I understand all to well what it feels like. I've lost several dogs and cats, most recently my dad's cat Puff, who'd been living with us for the last 5 years.

It never gets any easier, but in time, you will focus more on the happy memories rather than the loss.

*big hugs* and sloppy dog kisses from the pack.

I am so sad to read this! Big hugs! Glad to "see" you, but sorry to hear about Kita. She is one of the first shibas I remember from when I joined this board 9 years ago or so. I, too, have been out of touch. It's sad that our pups then are seniors now. How are the kids taking it?
