Large bulldog mix with failing kidneys

angeka May 07, 2012 04:42 PM

we just got back from the vet. 9 yo dog with drastic weight loss, lethargy and oozy eyes (trouble keeping them open). Kidneys failing. All tests showing results more than double normal and early heartworms. Spent the day hooked up to IV. The vet was very open and caring, but not much offered in way of help so we brought him home and set him up in a comfy spot. He is eating all meals, drinking, taking short walks. What else can we do? Have seen talk of aloe vera juice in water, dandelion leaves in food, high quality protein - for the kidneys; black walnut and wormwood for the worms (although I'm hesitant to focus on anything more than the kidneys just now). I know we can't "fix the kidneys", but is there any hope to improve his condition or lessen any suffering? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Two things that come to mind for the kidneys: the chinese herbal combination Rehmannia six, and a puree of raw beef kidneys and water. Puree fresh raw kidneys with an equal amount of water, and give him at least an ounce twice a day. Do not heat or microwave this. He would also do well with fish oil and Coenzyme Q10. And make sure he has plenty of fresh water, along with adding salt to his food to encourage him to drink. Good luck.
