Kaia may have Lumbo Sacral Instabilty

kona63 May 17, 2012 07:02 AM

Well we have been going back and forth to the vet with Kaia. It's not looking good. Our vet thinks he has Lumbo Sacral Instability. What that is, is compression of the spine. It's pinching off the nervers in the spinal colum. I am stil doing some research on this to learn more and see what treament options other than surgery we may have. In some cases the dogs will get temp relief but then they can relapse. If anyone knows and good spots for information on this, please send it out way.

I have heard of some agility dogs getting this. Some have had the surgery while others have not. I do not know enough about it to really recommend one treatment vs. another nor any of the consequences. I will say that all of these dogs have still had decent quality of life after diagnosis. I am sorry you are going through this. It is never good when the pups are doing poorly. Take care and hopefully the symptoms are mild and you are able to keep them that way for a VERY long time!

Dave sorry to read of Kaia's health problem. I have never heard of the condition so I can't offer any advice but I will have to do some reading up on it. Good Luck and better luck to the little one.

I'm so very sorry to read of Kaia's problems, and will be following the list closely to see how he is doing. This little one stole my heart from the first picture I ever saw of him!

Having a pup with a health issue is heavy, I know that. Murphy's kidney problems have been kept under control quite successfully, but it's really never out of my mind. I always keep an eye on how much water he's drinking and am very alert to any change in him at all.......yep, overprotective mom here!

She really is! She makes sure I NEVER get any of those tasty smelling bites of people food.....can't even manage when her back is turned!!

I'm not familiar with this one either.

I found a few places, had to weed through the people sites.

Oh, no! Lots of good thoughts for Kaia! Brewster had a period of time where he wold randomly scream if he moved wrong or we touched his bac/rib area wrong. The vet said it could be a nerve issue. Luckily it went away after a couple of months. I hope Kaia has the same luck!
