A good kibble for picky older dog?

RoseDovey Jan 11, 2013 11:50 AM

If anyone could help with this I would be so grateful.

I have a 14 and 1/2 year old collie mix who is refusing to eat. Her teeth are good but she just seems bored with anything I try to feed her. She will eat treats, or just about anything handed to her with an excited "Here! Good Puppy!" but not if I try to give her the same thing again and again. (So I can't feed her a whole meal by hand.) And I have tried a few "little bites" type foods, but without success. She has been a somewhat finicky eater her whole life, but not like this.

I wondered if anyone else on here has had a similar experience, and if so, were you able to find a kibble that worked for your dog?

I am really getting worried, such a struggle to keep her from loosing weight. Please help.

Just wondering if you have tried supplementing her kibble diet with something like skinless boneless salmon or something similar? You don't say what food you are feeding her now but good quality kibble can be found in all pet stores. I would stay away from most of the supermarket varieties. Also... sometimes a little zap in the microwave can make the food seem a little more palatable.
