Hello!
Was wondering if anyone has ever used fortiflora for their dogs. It is kind of expensive and best to get it online and is wondering if anyone else knows of anything else to use in place of it that is less expensive and can get it in a pet store. I have seen a few things out there in the stores but don't know if it works like fortiflora. It is for Kiko. She gets belly aches and gas with a grumbly belly.

Thanks

Hi Joanne...nice to see you. Back three years when Keiko was having his problems including diarrhea my vet had me try the Fortiflora. There really wasn't any noticable improvement with his stool or his appetite but keep in mind he was also dealing with his kidneys and the tumor on his spleen. Given that I was trying to treat all of his ailments at the same time may be the reason for the fortiflora not working. I don't know of anything else that may work. Good Luck and let us know how Kiko progresses.

I've never tried it. Cute picture of Kiko!

I have not used that particular brand, but probiotics and prebiotics do help upset stomaches quite well and I do know that not all probiotics and prebiotics are the same. Many cultures are not active and useless so you are paying for stuff that will work marginally at best. If possible, get the smallest amount available to see if it even works (it works fast when it works) and then go from there. If it is REALLY expensive, then look for a high quality probiotic/prebiotic blend that you can afford and try that. IF you even see minor improvement, you know you are on the right track. For small gut issues, the probiotic rich cheeses have helped or a TBSP of canned pumpkin at meal time.
