COLOR CHANGES IN GOLDFISH

GIGI2195 Mar 17, 2005 07:47 PM

WHEN I FIRST GOT MY GOLDFISH THE BRIGHT GOLD ONES HAD A BLACKENED RIM AROUND THEIR FINS AND ONE OF THEM WASNT GOLD AT ALL. NOW, ALL THE BLACKENED TAILS ARE GOLD AND THE DARK COLORED ONE IS SLOWLY GETTING LIGHTER AND MORE GOLDEN IN COLOR. IS THIS SOMETHING HORMONAL OR SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WATER? IS THIS NORMAL? IF NOT NORMAL WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Hi there
All goldfish go through several colour changes throughout their lives. It is all down to genetics and most goldfish start from bronze to black to gold in varying shades of gold. Doesnt sound like anything to worry about but sometimes colour enhancing food helps to retain colour longer.

Hi,
yes it is very common mine do it all the time u will notice a change in them when they get bigger also. If u do some research some of them turn a really beautiful reddish color & many other colors it's neat watching the changes. I have had goldfish for over 10yrs now and they are great.
Don't use Goldfish pellets they've got oil in them and if your goldfish don't each all of them they will kill your fish. The best bet is to get the flakes they won't harm anything.

Take Care,
Sheila
