Is it too cold to put my goldfish in a pond?

rayemond Mar 30, 2005 01:56 PM

I'm in the UK and I want to move my goldfish into a pond, but they've lived in a tank for their entire lives. Will it be too cold for them after a lifetime indoors? Do I need to wait until summer to move them?

Thanks,
Raye

depending on the county (im in scotland) then i would say May would be the best time as the water would have heated up, get a thermometer to measure the temp between the tank and pond to get them roughly the same and then float them in a bag for an hour before releasing.

I live pretty far north in the US, and we leave our goldfish in the pond all winter. The top freezes over, but the bottom doesn't freeze. We've put fish in the pond when it was still pretty cold outside. I just put the fish in a plastic bag and let it float in the water for a while before releasing so the water gets close to the same temperature.
