What's wrong with my fish?

nodoubtkiddo Apr 03, 2005 05:27 AM

A month ago I got three goldfish and a small tank. Lately one of them has been staying at the top and "gasping for air". I think I've read that this can be from a lack of oxygen in the water, but the other two fish seem to be doing fine. I'm very concerned...Any suggestions?...Maybe he's just hungry!

Thanks guys!

youve mentioned a small tank. how big is it and what is the output of your filter? do you have anything thats agitating the surface of the water, be it the filter or an airstone? have you tested the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitratre and ph? if you dont have the kits then most pet stores offer this service. what kind of goldfish? are they common, comet or fancy?

in the meantime do a 50% water change as i suspect one of your fish is weaker and may be having problems getting oxygen. do you also make sure they all get enough to eat?

Thanks for trying to help, but unfortunately my little fish Rufus has passed away. I think he was just sick, because the other two fish (all three were regular goldfish/feeder fish) are doing great and don't seem to be sick at all. I am going to change the water anyway though, just in case.

THANKS AGAIN

RIP RUFUS
