building pond with timber and PVC liner

I am thinking to build a pond with size 1.5mx1.5mx0.4m . The liner is ready made. But I want to build a timber box to make the pond.
1. Does the timer box need any bottom or just the 4 sides ?
2. I want to build the box with thickness 45mm thickness timber ; is it too strong or just 25mm thickness is ok ?

I bought the liner from the garden centre.
