In the Beginning....

OK, I am just designing a pond for my parents, they have been saying they were going to do this for 12 years, so I decided I would take over, with their blessings of course.

I have the placement, and I know what I want, but I need to know how to get started and what I need to get.

How do I determine how many gallons there will be? Anyone have a formula for me?

I will have a small waterfall with an area big enough to compensate for the water flow from it, then a small streem going probably 30' over to a pond that will probably be something around 6'x10' or smaller.

This will be a fish pond, and I would like the main pond part to be lightly planted. It might end up housing turtles also at some point.

I need to know what pumps, filters, returns, etc... That I need.

Any suggestions, pictures, websites, ideas, ANYTHING welcome, right now all I have is an idea and some rough pictures (I will post some later to give you something to go on).

Thanks a BUNCH!

Forgot to add, I also would like suggestions on fish species, plants, etc...

I live in SE MI and they would have to be able to survive year round in this pond. Thanks again.
