Taking a goldfish on the plane!?

PhunkeyPhish Jul 06, 2005 12:21 PM

I'm currently in Boston for 6 weeks and couldn't go that long without having a little friend with me so I purchased a small aquarium and a little black moore goldfish. At the end of my stay here I would like to take the little guy back to Florida with me to add him to my aquarium back home which has two large goldies in it. I was thinking I could transport him in a nalgene bottle since he is so small, but I am concerned about his oxygen needs. Are there any tablets that I can put into the water that will release oxygen (I seem to remember seeing something like that at a petstore once). If not I was thinking I could plug in the air pump at the airport before my flight and then during my lay over. Will he be able to go say 2 hours in a closed bottle before the next oxygenating? Thanks for any suggestions.
Ian and fish.

Yes, you can purchase the tablets at a fish store. However, the airline might have a problem with you taking him on board. Best to check with them first.

Is there anyway to ship fish safely? I know they must be shipped somehow, so how would I do it? I will check with the airlines though. Any ideas on his chances of survival?

Before you even think about transporting you must ask first. It would be a shame for you to be stopped at departures and most airlines would not have anywhere to keep a fish.
You would not be allowed to keep it as hand luggage and going into a hold would be dangerous if not packed properly. I'm not sure how they are packed for flights but i would think they would be in plastic bags with added oxygen and then well insulated against the cold as it will get below freezing in their.
Maybe best to take him back to a pet store who will find him a good home.

I think i replied to the wrong thread, but anyway if you want to transport him over land then the same priciple will apply. you will need a strong thick bag to pack him in, half water, half oxygen. well wrapped in newspaper and polystyrene foam and then in a strong tightly packed box, which must be well marked to say that its live fish. He would be ok in that for two days max.

Well I emailed the airlines. It's a 1 inch fish, why wouldn't you think I could keep it as hand luggage? It would be in a Nalgene bottle that I would hold like a cup.

to be honest i dont know why airlines dont let you take fish on,but i know a lot of them dont because they are still classed as livestock. i also think its to do with cabin pressure as well. sorry i cant help you more and good luck with getting the little guy home.

We advise each player to order fast WOW Gold here, to make us know when you are online through 24 hours live help.

I consider a successful LARP to(Buy WOW Gold) have at least 30 players. Thirty players is usually a decent number of characters, motivations and goals to get the game rolling under its own power. If you have too many short of that number, then the game tends to become a more complicated tabletop role-playing game(with RuneScape Gold). So, if your game is going to be successful as a LARP, your game master is simultaneously tending to the needs of at least 30 people.
