Lets talk food and water!

Hi,

I can't bring myself to spend a fortune on food. Here's what works for me. I usually buy the cheap pellets at walmart (~3 lbs. for $9.67) and I mix it with puffed wheat from the supermarket (1 bag is ~ .99 to 1.29).

They love this stuff. When the weather gets cooler, I switch to only puffed wheat. This has worked well for 3 years.
Does anybody else have low cost alternatives?

BTW I have a 2200 gal pond w/4 very large koi and about 30 mutts (all cross bred from 6 originals; 3 shubunkins and 3 fantails).

My water was clearer this year than it has ever been. I did away with my UV filter. I have a 3/4 hp pool pump with a bottom intake, a 30 gal tub with lava rocks & a debris filter, and a waterfall with a spillway. In the spring, water was very brown. I was cleaning the filter every week until late June. Then all of a sudden it was crystal clear. Hoping that I finally got it right.

Any input welcome.

You can find a decent pond fish food for less that 3.10 a pound. I dont want to get into brands here (TOS) but do some shopping.

All pelletized food 'should' be amended, or rather, hobbiest should feed other items such as baby shrimp, clay, sardines, oranges, etc.
