Hardy Water Lilies Question

phishie Jun 08, 2006 09:39 AM

My dad lives on an approximately 300 + acre farm that contains two ponds and a beaver pond. For the "non beaver" ponds, he wants to add water lilies to the ones he has currently. I got him a catalog from www.liveaquaria.com and from there, he has chosen chrysantha, dallas, sioux, and rembrandt. He is a zone 5 according to live aquaria, so those lilies will work according to the zone. The question is, are those water lilies going to work for his natural pond or are they more for the ornamental pond?

In natural ponds you have to be very careful. With a soil bottom, the lilies could choke the pond down to around ten feet if the water is not real muddy. The beaver may come eat them too.
