Snails in ponds

Hornby Sep 04, 2006 09:36 PM

Are snails in goldfish ponds a good thing for controlling algae? My new pond holds 690 gallons but only 18" deep. I am in Australia north of Sydney so the weather is quite warm most of the time.

I've had several diff varieties of aquatic snails in my ponds and their effect on carpet algae on everything below waterlevel is not noticible. Certain types are even the "mid way" host for fish parasites !!!
They seem to only live in the filters in my ponds-- away from hungry mouths of koi
