Food per Pound of Koi?

TFox Oct 04, 2007 10:22 AM

Hi. I'm in an aquaculture class on recirculating systems in my high school, and we're getting in 50 koi. We are having a problem finding a food / pound ratio for our new fish. They will be indoors until they are ready to be sold into ponds in the local area. Can anyone help me out with this?

YOU SHOULD FEED THEM AS MUCH FOOD AS THE WILL CONSUME IN 5 MINUTES ONCE A DAY. AND A SECOND SMALLER FEEDING LATER IN THE DAY IF DESIRED. THERE IS NO FORMULA PER POUND BECAUSE OF ALL THE VARIABLES,TEMP.,WATER QUALITY ETC. IF THERE IS FOOD AFTER 5-MINUTES USE LESS THE NEXT DAY. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. USE ONLY A HIGH QUALITY FOOD LIKE HIKARI. YOU WILL FEED LESS,THE FISH GET MORE QUALITY FOOD THATS DIGESTIBLE AND LESS WASTE IN THE WATER. CORN AS A FIRST INGREDIENT SHOULD BE AVOIDED(FIRST 3 REALLY). CORN IS NOT DIGESTED BY KOI,ITS JUST A BINDER. OLD FISH FARMER
