ferrets and shots???

izzy123 Jan 14, 2008 07:10 PM

I am very confused I have read several different things about if you have to have rabie shots for ferrets or not. One thing says ferrets cant get rabbies the other says stuff about state laws so does it depend on where you live and where can I go to find out I'm going to be moving to an apartment soon and need to know all the rules about my ferrets. thanks

ferrets can get rabies, and they should have rabies shots. Not sure if it is required in all states but if your ferret is vaccinated and bites someone, he can be quarantined and observed rather than euthanized. You also need to have your ferret vaccinated against canine distemper, with the FERRET version, not the regular old dog vaccine--your vet should be able to provide this.
