A few questions! Please Help!

anime__princess Aug 15, 2008 05:46 PM

Hello, I have a few questions. I have always had Hamster's, never Guinea pig's and my Mom got me one for my b-day 4 months ago, and we also have another one in there as well, both male's and I clean their cage out twice a week. Anyway, my questions are: Do they need baths? Do they need their nails clipped? Do they like to play in water? Please help! I love my little guys and I want to do the best I can for them! They are very healthy and they have their normal food at all times and they get vegetables every day!

Thank you,
Raelyn!

Typically guinea pigs do not need baths nor do they like playing in water. Bathing can be done periodically to ensure any 'messes' in their hair can be cleaned up. Nails can be trimmed as well if there isn't sufficient wear on them in their daily activities. Cat nail clippers work fine to do this, just make sure you don't cut too far up the nail into the living part of the nail or quick.

I am not sure how much research you have done so far on guinea pig care so I included few good links that are most helpful, including one about building your own cage.
