Skunks, legal?

I have kept small mamals and reptiles for 20 years. My wife saw something on PBS about skunks. Now she wants one. I told her that they would not be legal within New York City limits, I live in brooklyn. Does anyone know if they are?

Skunks are a big responsibly. And you have to see if you need a permit to own one in the state of new york. You also might have to get it shipped to you from another state
